Summer Camp, Turning Your Kids into Private Tour Guides

By Lisa Hetherington, Education Manager

Week 3 of camp has come and gone but not before over 120 campers had their adventures!

Our “Little Ducklings” learned all about what the Zookeepers do to prepare food for our many Zoo animals. Campers in “Zoo Moves” and “Endangered Strangers” not only learned about how animals moved and why many of the earth’s animals have become endangered but also had an up-close encounter with our Giraffes. The “Backyard Habitats” camp learned all about where some of our animals live in the wild and what they need to survive.

Finally our 5th and 6th grade camp “Earth 911” had a chance to research endangered animals and spend a week learning how they can change the world! At the end of the week they graduated and became certified Earth Doctors. We had a great week and our campers learned a lot.
As one parent told us “walking around the Zoo with my son is like having a private tour guide, he knew where everything was and had so much information to share.”

We look forward to 7 more weeks of camp and we will be sure to have more stories shared by campers, parents and staff! There are a few classes still available so check out the Summer Camp page.
